Lawmakers order IGP to recognize Tabuwal as speaker
Members of the
House of Representatives committee on police affairs were on Wednesday
afternoon engaged in a heated argument with Inspector General of Police
Suleiman Abba over last Thursday's security siege on the National
Assembly.
The committee had summoned Abba to explain the circumstances that led some of his men to prevent Speaker Aminu Waziri Tambuwal from gaining access into the parliament building and in the process harassed the Speaker as well as other lawmakers.
But at Wednesday’s session, Abba said some thugs tried to gain illegal access into the premises of the federal legislature.
However, the lawmakers were angry when Abba refused to recognise Tambuwal as Speaker and demanded him to revert his position. The session got heated as the lawmakers took turn to rebuff the IGP.
