Court order police to return Tambuwal security details

Justice Ahmed Ramat Mohammed of the Federal High Court of Abuja has asked the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Suleiman Abba to return the security details of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Aminu Tambuwal.

Tambuwal’s counsel, Lateef Flagbemi, who led 68 other lawyers to the trial, commended that the court was set to reconsider the removal of security details from the Speaker, noting that it was a serious matter as the case involved the fourth citizen of the country.
Meanwhile, a counsel of the PDP, Unus Ustaz Usman, argued that the court had no jurisdiction to entertain the case, urging to decay the suit.
The court said that IGP Abba erred in law by withdrawing the security details of the Speaker when he has not been removed from office.
The IGP had, while returning Tambuwal’s security, protected the action through a statement by the Force Public Relation Officer, Emmanuel Ojukwu, saying that the security personnel attached to the Speaker were withdrawn because of Tambuwal’s defection from the party that elected him the Speaker.
He quoted the violation section 68 (1) g of the 1999 constitution as the basis for his action.
