Nigerian Military Disorganized, Under-equipped In Fight Against Boko Haram - CNN Special Report

(CNN) I didn't want to ask the question. I could already guess the pain behind the answer. "Do you think your husband is dead?" Her mouth twists, contorting her young face, tears welling in her already reddened eyes. "I don't know... I pray to God to give him another chance," she finally manages to stutter. Her sadness is heavy and blankets both of us. She tells me she has three children, and they last saw their father four months ago when he went back to his army unit on the front line in Nigeria's battle with the radical Islamist extremist group Boko Haram. Satellite images show devastation of Boko Haram attacks, rights groups say His friends last saw him bloodied and shooting as Boko Haram fighters advanced and they all fled. If all this wasn't trauma enough, the young woman says the army has deserted her, too. "They didn't tell me anything, they still haven't told me what happened and they didn't pay me anyth

Bayelsa Governor ban Goodluck re-election groups in Bayelsa

Apparently miffed by the activities of various groups promoting the re-election of President Goodluck Jonathan and other candidates, Bayelsa State governor, Seriake Dickson has banned the activities of Transformation Ambassadors of Nigeria, TAN and other groups in the state. A statement signed by Daniel Iwariso-Markson, Chief Press Secretary to the governor, claimed that the groups were only brewing crisis in Bayelsa. “Those claiming to be campaigning for the re-election of President Goodluck Jonathan but are instead engaged in promoting subversive activities and inciting crisis and division within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state will have to move their activities elsewhere,” it said. Dickson, at a meeting with PDP flag bearers at the party secretariat in Yenagoa, said the party is the only recognized political structure saddled with the responsibility of leading Jonathan’s campaign in the state. He expressed worry at the activities of TAN, which according to him, d

8 Men Of God, Different 2015 Revelations – What Do We Believe?

If by now, you have read at least two, three or more of the several prophecies for 2015 from the different Nigerian men of God, then you are probably as confused as we are. These men of God hear from the same God but they come up with slightly different visions for Nigeria this year Their prophecies revolved around the Nigerian economy, Ebola, the upcoming general election, Aso Rock intrigues, the entertainment industry, death, death and more death. Kick starting the trend is the highly respected General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God who revealed his at the cross over night. He revealed that the dreaded Ebola Virus Disease, which has killed over 7,000 people so far, will finally die, he however warned that God said the world should pray against “massive calamities, massive earthquakes and strong hurricanes and typhoons.” On the February elections, he said “Unfortunately, because it is election year, I can’t tell you all that God told me abou

He did not disgrace us. “I thank God for eight years of excellent performance, unbroken promises, sound experience and constructive government,” Tinubu said. A group of concerned youths in Bayelsa State under the auspices of Bayelsa Youth Vanguard has threatened to disrupt the re-election rally of President Goodluck Jonathan slated for 5 February in Yenagoa, the state capital, if the wife of the President, Dame Patience Jonathan attended. The organisation therefore warned her not to accompany her husband for the presidential campaign. Buhari Executed My Father But I Will Still Vote For Him" - Lawal Ojuolape's Son

1985, Three young men , Lawal Ojuolape (30), Bernard Ogedengbe (29) and Bartholomew Owoh (26) were taken to bar-beach. Those days that was the place where condemned criminals faced the firing squad. What was the offence of these three young men you might ask?.They had been found guilty of drug trafficking. Death penalty for drug traffickers was a decree that the Buhari/Idiagbon military junta introduced after they had seized power from Shagari. There was public outcry, people pleaded for their lives to be spared. International organisations jointly called for the halt in their execution but to no avail. Buhari insisted that discipline must be instilled! death was the way? That faithful morning they were led with their hands and legs bound. Eye witnesses say when they were tied to the spot in which they were to be shot, the three of them started singing. They sang a religious song that made the excited onlookers cry. As the bullets ripped through their body, hitting vital organs and thei

Vote Out Jonathan, He Is Self-Centred – Timipre Sylva

Former Bayelsa State governor, Chief Timipre Sylva, has opened up on why he is backing General Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress (APC) against President Goodluck Jonathan of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Sylva, who was speaking in an interactive session with Bayelsans monitored on a radio station, Royal FM based in Yenagoa, said he was working for Buhari in 2015 because Jonathan had failed the Niger Delta people. While noting that he had disowned Jonathan as his brother, he pointed out that the Jonathan Presidency had dashed the hopes of the Niger Delta people. He said the decision to support General Buhari was based on convictions and the need for change in the polity. Sylva stated that he was ready to work for his newly found political friends in the APC than to work for President Jonathan who plotted his downfall from office. Obasanjo to Jonathan: it is too late to support you

Dr. Jonathan and Chief Obasanjo met for about one hour on Monday night at the former president’s Abeokuta home. The President requested for Obasanjo’s support. “It’s too late; I’m sorry,” Obasanjo reportedly told Jonathan. A source close to the meeting told our reporter on condition of anonymity because he is not allowed to speak to the media. At the meeting were two Christian leaders – Pastor Enoch Adeboye of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) and Bishop David Oyedepo of the Winners’ Chapel – who attended at Obasanjo’s request. None of those at the meeting spoke about it, but it was learnt that it was brief because Obasanjo insisted that for him, it was too late to back Jonathan. The former president has been a virulent critic of the Jonathan administration,

Why human rights will remain endangered in Africa and Nigeria

Why human rights will remain endangered in Africa and Nigeria Emeka Umeagbalasi .. December 2014 marked the 66 years of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights commonly called “UDHR”. The 2014 slogan of the United Nations was Human Rights 365; meaning that every day is world human rights day. Despite this memorable event of December 2014, human rights will still face big challenges in Africa and Nigeria in 2015. This is chiefly due to prevalence of dictatorship and tyranny in Africa and expected turbulent general elections holding in Nigeria in February. Historical Foundations of Human Rights: The recorded journey to human rights dates back to about 304 AD with the recognition of religious rights or right to freedom of religion by then monarchic authorities in Europe. The issue of human rights again appeared in the famous Fourteen-Point Program of then President Woodrow Wilson of the United States of America; a recommendation he made for the formation of the League of Nations, wh

Support Jonathan, PDP Begs Obasanjo

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) yesterday appealed to former President Olusegun Obasanjo to back the re-election bid of President Goodluck Jonathan in next month’s general elections. The PDP said Obasanjo’s support was imperative because it was crucial for the president’s victory in the February 14 poll. Obasanjo, who had engaged in war of words with the President in recent times, has since last year formally withdrawn active participation in the affairs of the ruling PDP. The former president was, however, absent from the MKO Abiola Stadium venue of yesterday’s President Jonathan’s campaign in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital. The former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dimeji Bankole, did not also attend the rally. Earlier, journalists who had besieged Obasanjo’s Hilltop Presidential Mansion in Abeokuta to await the planned visit by Jonathan to the former president’s residence were disappointed when the event did not hold. Reporters who had kept vig

2000 Baga killings, Don't believe the army- Dr. Awoyemi

By Bunmi Awoyemi, Ph.D DON'T BELIEVE THE FLIP-FLOPPING NIGERIAN ARMY SPOKESMAN - BRIGADIER GENERAL OLUKOLADE I saw in the news this morning that the Military spokesman Brigadier General Olukolade denied that 2000 people were slaughtered overnight in Baga, Borno State as reported a week ago by the BBC and CNN based on eye witness reports. Instead he stated that ONLY 150 people actually died. He had to wait for one week to make this denial after his Commander-in-chief released a condolence message within 24 hours of a terror attack in France killing 23 French citizens empathizing with the French President and the French people. His Commander-in-Chief had issued a gag order against media houses threatening to cancel their broadcast licenses if they reported the story. The same Brigadier Olukololade said he had rescued the Chibok girls only for him to retract his fake press release? The same man said the government knows where the girls are being held but 8 months after the governmen

Who Will Call Nigeria “Christian Leaders” to Order

Who Will Call Nigeria “Christian Leaders” to Order By Igho Hakeem Ohwojeheri We read this morning that the prelate of Methodist Church, Samuel Uche, yesterday in the present of President Jonathan accused Fulani and Kanuri ethnic nationalities of being behind Boko Haram with the sole aim of seizing power and Islamising the country. I could not help but feel “wan kei” that a Bishop of such statute could have vomited such level of foolishness in the present of our President. Very tragic and unfortunate. Imagine that during Yar’Adua reign, that a top Muslim leader stood before Yar’Adua and claimed that Igbo and Ijaw ethnic groups where behind the Niger Delta insurgency in other to seize power and Christianise the country. Imagine the uproar and condemnation such comment would have elicited from Christian communities (home and abroad) and Muslims who would fall over themselves in condemning the President and the maker of such comment. Its a known fact that Boko Haram insurgency started

Why We Will Not Vote For Jonathan- PDP Chief

Ahead of President Goodluck Jonathan’s campaign visit to Ebonyi State, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, Hon Sylvester Igwe, has said that over 50 per cent of members of the party in the state, including citizens of the state would not vote for the re-election of President Jonathan in the forthcoming February 14 presidential election following what he described as the president’s inability to curb the activities of the Boko Haram Islamist insurgents, as well as his failure to ensure the release of the abducted Chibok girls. In an exclusive interview with LEADERSHIP in Abakaliki, the state capital, Hon Igwe claimed that the people of Ebonyi State and the nation in general are tired of President Jonathan’s lackadaisical attitude towards the continued killing of innocent Christians and Igbos in the North, and the non-prosecution of corrupt officials in his cabinet.
