GREAT LEADERS IN SOUTHWEST NIGERIA BEFORE COLONIZATION

GREAT LEADERS IN NIGERIA BEFORE COLONIZATION This is meant to highlight Nigeria's history, government and political organization before the colonizers were able to take control of our day-to-day societal administration. The emphasis will be on the people that shaped our various tribes, people, towns and events. Those people whose legend and real life contributions have been passed down from our forebears either through oral history, folklore or actual documented evidence. GREAT LEADERS IN SOUTHWEST NIGERIA BEFORE COLONIZATION LISABI, A Leader of the Egba people of Yorubaland Lived in the mid-1700s to early 1800s There seems no doubt that the Egba were subjected to the empire of Oyo at some period since. In addition to both Egba and Oyo traditions about this, a considerable assimilation of culture and governmental practice seems to have taken place; this can be observed especially in the case of the northern Egba, the Gbagura. How and when the Egba came to accept Oyo domination

Agenda For Peace With Hamzat: Corruption Can Be Used For Transformation (part 1)

Agenda For Peace With Hamzat: Corruption Can Be Used For Transformation Written by Abdulrazaq O Hamzat (Mr Rights) ‘’We must understand the reality of today, that a war against corruption is a lost war and it has never been won by any nation. Even in China where death is the penalty for culprits, corruption still strives and flourish. ‘’ Going by definition, corruption is defined as a dishonest or illegal behavior especially of people in authority. However, I see it more as the bad habit of every individual. For example, if a political office holder deceitfully inflates the award of a contract, or he or she gives undue privileges to his or her friends and family to secure government contracts, that is corruption. If a market woman systematically reduced the congo of garri to make more gains at the detriment of her customers or a fraudulent banker deduct funds from customers account without their consent, that is another corruption. Or may be a motor mechanic deceives his

Presideny condemned APC for threatening to have a parralel govt should PDP rig 2015 election

The Presidency, Tuesday, countered the claim that President Goodluck was desperate for power in 2015. It said the president had no plans to postpone the 2015 general elections as earlier claimed by the All Progressives Congress, APC. Reacting to the speculations in Abuja on Tuesday, Senior Special Adviser to President Jonathan on public affairs, Dr. Doyin Okupe, described the claim as “idiotic”, saying that the achievements of the president would speak for him at the polls come 2015. The presidential aide flayed the APC over what he tagged their “do-or-die and win at all cost” tendencies. Okupe insisted that Jonathan had done credibly well to be returned to power in 2015. Okupe, who spoke at the 2014 Nigerian Pilot/Newsworld Annual Public Lecture and Award, which held at Sheraton Hotels in Abuja Tuesday, frowned at the claim that Jonathan was planing to postpone the election in a bid to stay longer in office. He further tongue-lashed APC for threatenin

Today is human rights day, Human Rights 365, everyday is your rights

The UN General Assembly proclaimed 10 December as Human Rights Day in 1950, to bring to the attention ‘of the peoples of the world’ the Universal Declaration of Human Rights as the common standard of achievement for all peoples and all nations. This year’s slogan, Human Rights 365, encompasses the idea that every day is Human Rights Day. It celebrates the fundamental proposition in the Universal Declaration that each one of us, everywhere, at all times is entitled to the full range of human rights, that human rights belong equally to each of us and bind us together as a global community with the same ideals and values. http://www.un.org/en/events/humanrightsday/

Yaradua Wanted Ribadu To Marry His Daughter, says Obasanjo in new book

Yaradua Wanted Ribadu To Marry His Daughter, says Obasanjo in new book Former President Olusegun Obsanjo has sensationally linked the travails of Nuhu Ribadu, former chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), to his refusal to marry late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua. Yar’Adau’s daughters were famous for marrying big political figures, mostly governors. Ribadu, an assistant inspector general of police, was removed as EFCC chairman, demoted to the rank of deputy commissioner of police and eventually dismissed after a face-off with Yar’Adua. It was generally believed then that Ribadu’s refusal to terminate the corruption trial of James Ibori, former governor of Delta state and Yar’Adua’s close ally, was responsible for his travails. While not dismissing the link, Obasanjo has also suggested that Ribadu’s refusal to marry Yar’Adua’s daughter could have contributed to his maltreatment by the former president who died in 2010. He also wrote in “My Watch”, his three-vol

Tinubu A Corrupt Thief, Obasanjo Blasts In New Book

Writing on Tinubu, he said: “Nuhu Ribadu tried to investigate almost all of them to the best of my understanding. At a time, he publicly announced that 28 out of the 36 governors were either manifestly corrupt or had tainted in one way or other. He gave me a copy of his report on those governors. Bola Tinubu was definitely one of the worst cases.” The former President also took a swipe at former governor of Ogun State, Gbenga Daniel, in the book, saying: “Daniel is shifty, dubious and believes he is the cleverest human being on earth.” While answering questions thrown at him, Obasanjo said he was not afraid of telling the truth, insisting that everything he wrote was true. http://sunnewsonline.com/new/?p=94695

Obasanjo: Why Yar'Adua's Cabal Tried to Rubbish Me *Accuses Kingibe, Tanimu, Others of Using State Power to 'Settle Personal Scores' *Claims His Daughter Was Framed as Part of Ploy to Cut Him to Size Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has detailed how members of the cabal around his successor, late President Umaru Yar’Adua tried to hound him out of relevance using state resources and how he decided that fighting back may be unwise. In a tell-all, three-part autobiography, which a FCT High Court has stopped Obasanjo from publishing, the former president named then Economic Adviser to Yar’Adua, Dr. Tanimu Yakubu Kurfi and one-time Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Alhaji Baba-Gana Kingibe as the arrowheads of a cabal that tried to rubbish him and his achievements. How i tamed over ambitious Atiku, Obasanjo narrates in new book ''my watch''

Image
In his latest book titled My Watch scheduled to be launched in Lagos this morning, former President Olusegun Obasanjo has chronicled the genesis of the uneasy relationship between him and his former deputy, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, as well as how his aides planted moles within Atiku’s camp to monitor him. Obasanjo, who denied ever seeking Third Term in office, blamed Atiku for what he described as a campaign of calumny against him on the issue after buying up the media. Revealing details of their private conversations at different times, Obasanjo also traced the ascension to power of President Goodluck Jonathan and the compromise deal that was struck for him (Jonathan) to spend only one term in office. He said it would be dishonourable for the president to now go back on that promise by contesting the 2015 presidential election. Obasanjo also accused the Jonathan administration of promoting corruption. He cited several examples to buttress his claim, including what a Chinese told hi

Former president of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo has insinuated that Patience Jonathan, wife of the president, Diezani Alison-Madueke, Petroleum Minister, Stella Oduah, former Aviation Minister and Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Finance Minister are all ‘Presidents’ of Nigeria, noting that Goodluck Jonathan comes behind the quartet and is the weakest of them all. Extracts from the three-volume autobiography of Obasanjo, titled, “My Watch” revealed how critical he is of Jonathan’s administration. “Five presidents in Nigeria, these were his wife, Diezani, Oduah, Ngozi, Goodluck Jonathan and that he was the weakest of the five,” Obasanjo wrote in ‘My Watch’. APC Counters Edwin Clark, says heaven won't fall if Jonathan is voted out in 2015

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has said the comment by Chief Edwin Clark, that if the opposition has its way it can poison or kill President Goodluck Jonathan just to take power, is absurd, incendiary and unbecoming of an elder statesman of the Chief’s stature. In a statement issued in Lagos on Monday by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party said Chief Clark’s comment, which was widely reported by newspapers, is the latest in a string of statements by President Jonathan’s supporters that are overheating the polity ahead of the 2015 general elections and are even threatening the peace and unity of the country. ”We have waited for several days to give Chief Clark the opportunity to deny making such a fallacious statement, but he has not done so, which means he was not misquoted and that he indeed meant what he said. ”It is time for the President himself to call his supporters to order for the sake of the peace and unity of our dear nation. Court Stops Obasanjo From Publishing Autobiography An Abuja High Court has restrained a former president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, from publishing or having someone publish on his behalf, a new autobiography titled: ‘My Watch’. Justice Valentine Ashi sitting in Wuse Zone 2, Abuja made the restraining order last Friday without according the former president a hearing. The order was made in favour of a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Buruji Kashamu. The application was argued ex-parte by Kashamu's lawyer, Dr Alex Izinyon, SAN. Iziyon had argued that the content of the book related to issues contained in Obasanjo’s December 2, 2013, letter to President Goodluck Jonathan and former PDP National Chairman, Bamanga Tukur, where he (Obasanjo) claimed that Kashamu was allegedly a fugitive, wanted in the United States.
