Lagos before Nigeria By Abdulrazaq O Hamzat

Image
More than 50 years before the creation of Nigeria as a united entity, Lagos is already a major centre of modern civilisation. Lagos history is rich in Yoruba tradition, trade and commerce, infrastructural development and cosmopolitanism." -EXTRACTED In the past few days, i have followed the unhealthy debate between easterners in Lagos and their host and i must say that such is really uncalled for. No tribe or race is an island of knowledge and civilisation. At one time or the other, each one of them contributed in one way or the other. While it is proper for every one to feel good about themselves and try as much as possible to amplify in a good way, their importance and contribution to the society they live in, it is also very crucial to take into account, the reality of other factors without attempting to ridicule the contribution of others. I therefore advise all those joining the discuss to thread with caution and avoid things that are capable of setting our peop

Bernie Sanders, US president in waiting

Image
By Abdulrazaq O Hamzat Most popular US senator, Bernie Sanders has announced is entrance into the 2020 US presidential race. Two days ago, the runner up to Hilary Clinton in the race to 2016 democratic nomination launched is 2020 campaign at Brooklyn with over 1 million volunteers across the country. People ordinarily wouldn’t vote for any unknown third party. This is the same all over the world. Voting for an unknown third party will be extremely hard, especially a third party, whose campaign they are not seeing on TV and Radio almost all the time. But you can still break the jinx, says Bernie Sanders, a strong U.S presidential candidate in the 2016 general election, now the major candidate in the race for 2020. Before venturing into politics, many thought it was impossible for a third party candidate to win election in U.S. To a lot of people, only Democrats and Republican are destined to win, but Bernie disagreed. He believed that, if Democrats and Republican can do i

5 facts about O TO GE slogan and the collapse of Saraki's dynasty

Image
Kwara Must Change 1. Alh. LAK Jimoh was the first politician in modern history of Kwara state to use the O TO GE slogan in a campaign. O TO GE simply means, Enough is Enough.  Alhaji Jimoh first used the slogan in 2011 when he was contesting the Kwara Central Senatorial seat under the People's Democratic Party (PDP). Bukola Saraki eventually won the ticket and went ahead to represent Kwara Central at the Senate.  While the slogan wasn't popular at the time, there's no taking away the fact that Alh LAK Jimoh used it first and could be rightly credited to be the originator. 2. 8 years later, the slogan idea was pitched again in 2018 immediately after the All Progressive Congress primary election in Kwara State. After the APC primary election, Islamic singer, Aminat Obirere produced a song titled o to ge as part of a joint album coordinated by Kwara Must Change to promote the candidature of APC governorship candidate, Alh. Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq. The album itself was titled

The hate we instigate against each other will not consume the land we live on, the tribe we belong or the religion we practice, it would only  consume us, the people, irrespective of tribe, region or religion. Although, I may not be able to tell you how we could solve the herdsmen problem, but i know how we won’t ever solve it. Instigating hate against each other will never solve the problem. This is something we all know, yet we continue to do the same thing over and over again. That's bad. Some myopic people are quick to claim that division is a way out. But what do they know? I will only refer them to India and Pakistan. India and Pakistan have hated each other for more than 70years. Here is why. The British colonized Indian for more than 200 years and Indians weren’t happy about it. All the people’s rage were directed at the British and to put stop to such rage, British had an idea, ‘’divide and rule’’. What does that mean? Muslims against Hindu’s, against Sikhs, ag

2019: Between Olawepo Hashim, Buhari and Atiku

Image
There is a wise saying that goes thus, "only foolish people take the same action that has consistently failed them and expect positive outcome". Nigeria today is at a crossroad, no thanks to the incompetent and failed leadership of the political elites that have been taking turns among themselves to enslave Nigerians since 1999, I mean both the Peoples Democratic Party and All Progressive Congress. These two parties and their candidates, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and President Muhammadu Buhari respectively, have been going about spending public funds to convince Nigerians to vote them in the February 16 Presidential election even though they both have damaged antecedents and they naturally should be begging a judge to reduce their jail terms if it were in saner climes. Atiku Abubakar was Vice President for 8 years and was notorious for looting everything he came in contact with, including funds for Petroleum Development Trust Fund. His colleague in looting and American Co

In a statement signed by the president of the association, Mr Chris Kehinde Nwandu, the association urged politicians not to see the coming elections as a do or die affair. “This is an opportunity for electorates to exercise their civic responsibility to select leaders without fear of violence. Violence is inimical to conducting a credible election. Politicians are therefore advised not to heat up the polity or incite their followers to violence,” the statement says.  The Guild also urged INEC to remain as an unbiased umpire, saying: “We strongly believe that INEC should be completely independent. On no account should INEC be perceived as being biased by either the electorates or election observers. “We urge everyone to vote because bad politicians are not born, they are created by some good people who don’t vote.

A leader of the Middle Belt Forum, Air Commodore Dan Suleiman (Rtd) has said that the Forum will stick to its earlier endorsement of the Presidential candidate of the Peoples Trust (PT) for the 2019 election, Mr. GBENGA Olawepo-Hashim. Suleiman, who stated this at a meeting with members of the Forum in Abuja said that he and a number of the Forum's members were not carried along in the adoption of former Vice President and the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (Pdp) in the February 16 election, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar by the ethnic Nationality groups cutting across the North and South. Since the adoption of OTOGE as the slogan by All Progressive Congress (APC) in Kwara State, the ruling dynasty has been running here and there to slow down the unstoppable growth of the opposition, but like a moving train, the OTOGE movement is unstoppable until victory is attained. At first, it was just Kwarans in different state of the feder

Presidential candidate of People’s Trust (PT) in the scheduled February 16 election, Mr. Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim, has called on the General Abdulsalami Abubakar-led National Peace Committee and the Nigeria Judicial Council (NJC) to intervene and amicably resolve the suspension of the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Walter Onnoghen, in order to avert political and constitutional crises. Olawepo-Hashim made the call against the backdrop of the combative and intransigent position taken by President Muhammadu Buhari who last Friday acted on a black market ex-parte order procured at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) to suspend Onnoghen and swear in his stead Justice Tanko Mohammed as acting CJN. He said in an interview on Monday in Abuja that all presidential candidates, including President Buhari of the All Progressives Congress, were made to sign a peace, which among others, was to ensure peace before and after the election. Olawepo-Hashim, however, lamented that the suspension of

PRESS STATEMENT BY APC PRESIDENTIAL CAMPAIGN COUNCIL ON ATIKU’S CLANDESTINE VISIT TO THE U.S In our press release issued on Sunday, December 30, 2018, titled “WHEN THE THIEF IS SHOUTING THIEF”: THE CASE OF ALHAJI ATIKU ABUBAKAR”, we correctly predicted as follows: “By running for President of Nigeria, Atiku intends to get some immunity from prosecution. Already he is hoping to obtain a visa to visit the US, as a guest of the State department, a concession that the US will grant to a Presidential candidate of Africa’s biggest Nation”. Therefore, we were not surprised by his visit to the U.S. For us, this visit is really a non-event considering the issues involved in the forthcoming election. However, we have bad news for those who think this is a momentous event for Atiku Abubakar: the visit was nothing but a downright catastrophe because rather than dispel the fact of indictments hanging over his head, it further confirms and reinforces those facts for the following reasons: (1
