War against corruption is a lost war (part 1)

COLUMN: AGENDA FOR PEACE WITH MR.RIGHTS COLUMNIST: Abdulrazaq O Hamzat(Mr.Rights) TOPIC: War against corruption is a lost war (part 1) ‘’We must understand the reality of today, that a war against corruption is a lost war and it has never been won by any nation. Even in China where death is the penalty for culprits, corruption still strives and flourish. ‘’ Going by definition, corruption is defined as a dishonest or illegal behavior especially of people in authority. However, I see it more as the bad habit of every individual. For example, if a political office holder deceitfully inflates the award of a contract, or he or she gives undue privileges to his or her friends and family to secure government contracts, that is corruption. If a market woman systematically reduced the congo of garri to make more gains at the detriment of her customers or a fraudulent banker deduct funds from customers account without their consent, that is another corruption. Or may be a motor mechanic de

Boko Haram Kills 32, Kidnaps More Women And Girls In Borno

Boko Haram militants killed 32 people and kidnapped scores of others in an attack on the village of Gumsuri in the restive northeast, two local officials and a witness said Thursday. The officials, who requested anonymity, said locals were still counting those abducted in the attack Sunday in the remote area but that the figure could pass 100 and included women and children. “After killing our youths, the insurgents have taken away our wives and daughters,” said Mukhtar Buba, who fled Gumsuri to the Borno state capital Maiduguri. Details took four days to emerge because the mobile phone network has largely collapsed in the area roughly 70 kilometres (43 miles) south of Maiduguri, and many of the roads are impassable. Gamsuri is located on the road that leads to Chibok, where Boko Haram abducted more than 200 girls from a school in April. One of the local officials said the village had previously been protected against Boko Haram violence by a strong vigilante

Boko Haram Leader, Shekau Vows To Attack Emir Sanusi and kill other Muslim faithfuls

Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau, has threatened to attack the Emir of Kano, Muhummadu Sanusi II, in retaliation for the Emir’s call on Kano residents and other Nigerians to arm and defend themselves against the terror organization. In a new video released weekend, Mr. Shekau said his group does not consider Mr. Sanusi a true Muslim, and will attack him whenever an opportunity presents itself. The Emir had earlier issued a call to arms after a series of deadly attacks by suspected Boko Haram militants in Kano. Speaking at Kano’s central Mosque in October, the Emir charged the people of Kano to arm and defend themselves against the sect, which is responsible for more than 13,000 deaths. Militants later launched a deadly assault on the Mosque on Friday, November 28, detonating multiple bombs and shooting worshippers to death. http://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/headlines/173429-boko-haram-leader-shekau-releases-new-video-vows-attack-emir-sanusi-kano.html

I rejected Apc Vice presidential ticket says Tinubu

Why I Withdrew From Vice Presidential Race- Bola Tinubu Statement Released by Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu regarding his withdrawal from consideration for the APC Vice- Presidential Position. I am a Nigerian who loves his country and am hopeful about what it can become. I have seen and conducted myself as a patriot long before I thought of myself as a politician. I shall always walk this line and no other. After all the political calculations are made and the dust of competition has settled, it must be this nation and its people who stand first and foremost. The question becomes whether we stand strong, able to shape ourselves into our best future or will we stand frail and trembling, burdened by the abject failure to surmount the multiple problems confronting us. It against this backdrop that I assess any action I take. Here I come to my name being placed in consideration as the Vice Presidential candidate for our party, the APC. I have labored hard to move this part

What is wrong with Nigerian police?

What Is Wrong With Our Police? Two days ago, on my way home from work around 9pm, I was stopped by some police men for carrying a laptop. The mistake I made was I did not have the receipt and my ID on me. They put me in a danfo bus and headed to their station. On the way they picked up anybody they saw that had a bag on them. There was even a guy that had a laptop with him with his ID card and receipt that they picked "cause he was walking around with a laptop alone". They seized all our phones till we got to the police station. When we got to the police station they separated those of us that had laptops from those that didn't. All of us with laptops were branded yahoo boys. They told us to turn on our systems so they can analyse what was on the system. When I switched on my own they saw visual studio with codes and sql server open (I am a developer) and they concluded that that was the software that I use in scamming my clients. After punching and slapping me for not t

VP Slot: Amaechi, Saraki Move Against Tinubu

VP Slot: Amaechi, Saraki Move Against Tinubu Rotimi Amaechi, governor of Rivers state, has revived his hopes of getting the vice-presidential ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC), launching a last-minute move to dislodge Bola Tinubu, former governor of Lagos, who had looked all set to fill the slot. Backed by Bukola Saraki, former governor of Kwara state, as well as some APC governors opposed to the candidature of Tinubu, Amaechi got the enlarged meeting of the party’s leadership in Abuja on Monday night to reset the entire selection process. The opposition to Tinubu is based on the need to avoid a Muslim-Muslim ticket, an argument that will also knock out Babatunde Fashola, the governor of Lagos, who is well loved in many parts of Nigeria. Tinubu is also being opposed on the basis of his “past” ─ although his supporters argue that there is no case against him, neither has he been convicted in any court of law. Muhammadu Buhari, the presidential candidate of the party, had

Human Rights Group Drags Buhari To ICC Over Alleged Crimes

Human Rights Group Drags Buhari To ICC Over Alleged Crimes A Nigerian human rights group, the Northern Coalition for Democracy and Justice (NCDJ), on Monday, askedthe International Criminal Court (ICC) to bring charges against Muhammadu Buhari, for post-election violence in 2011.The group said in a statement that Buhari should face justice over the violence, which claimed 800 people’s lives and destroyed many churches and schools. The ICC has been looking into possible war crimes in Nigeria since 2010.The NCDJ alleged that the violence included murder, torture and rape systematically directed at perceived non-supporters of Buhari. The Nigerian Tribune reports that, the NCDJ had previously referred Buhari to the ICC in 2011, but said it decided to submit more evidence after the former military ruler emerged as the main candidate for February’s presidential elections. “We have a lot of very strong evidences we are submitting to the prosecutor,” said Goran Sluiter, a D

I Was Molested By A Priest, Beaten Up By My Ex - Psquare's wife

I Was Molested By A Priest, Beaten Up By My Ex - Lola Omotayo Okoye This is a shocking revelation from Peter Okoye's wife. Lola Omotayo Okoye shared her story with participants at Dare to Dream event organised by FCMB. In her words ‘ She was molested by a priest when she was a teen, she didn’t know what to do, believe or feel. I didn’t tell anyone because I was ashamed and embarrassed. I didn’t go to my family to talk about it because I felt like I did something wrong. For many years, that stuck with me and I became rebellious, I didn’t want to listen to anyone. Wamakko To Jonathan: Resign And Apologise To Nigerians

Sokoto State Governor, Alhaji Aliyu Wamakko, Monday advised President Goodluck Jonathan to resign and apologise to Nigerians for failing to meet their aspiration rather than dissipating energy on his 2015 re-election bid. Speaking with newsmen at the Government House, Sokoto, on Monday, Wamakko said the country had retrogressed in many respects, hence the need for Jonathan to vacate the scene. "If I am asked to advise President Goodluck Jonathan on his re-election bid in a simple language, I will tell him to resign and apologise to Nigerians for his failure. This is my candid opinion as a patriotic citizen who believes in the advancement of the country."Wamakko said. www.thisdaylive.com/articles/wamakko-to-jonathan-resign-and-apologise-to-nigerians/196795/

Obasanjo almost killed me as a unilag student- Tunde bakare

The founder of the Latter Rain Assembly, pastor Tunde Bakare has accused former President, Olusegun Obasanjo of killing students’ unionism in the country when he was the military Head of State in 1978. Bakare, who was a running mate to Buhari in the last presidential election made the claim on Monday at the 2014 anniversary of the International Day of Students. According to him, Obasanjo, as the then Head of State in 1978, used brute force to repress the students during the ‘Ali Must Go’ protest. Some students were killed in the protest. One of them was Akintunde Ojo. Delivering a paper titled, “Good Governance: Sustainability of Democracy, the Role of Students in the Forthcoming General Elections”, Bakare said it was unfortunate that students’ unionism had been hijacked by unserious students. Recalling the history of students’ unionism from the colonial days, he noted that it suffered a fatal blow in 1978. He said, “General Olusegun Obasanjo’s government ordered the brutal suppres

Ministry of Finance, NNPC, SEC are criminal agencies defrauding govt of billions- Fiscal commission

SEC, NNPC, Top List Of Agencies Stealing Billions Of Federal Revenues As the Nigerian government struggles to raise more money to cushion the impact of a crashing oil price, a federal regulator has confirmed how billions of naira that should have been paid to state coffers as internally generated revenues were hidden or diverted by government agencies. Leading the pack of offenders, the Fiscal Responsibility Commission said, are the state-run oil company, Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, and capital market regulator, Securities and Exchange Commission, SEC. The two agencies, and many others, either lied about how much they generated, or how much was due to the government, according to exclusive details obtained by PREMIUM TIMES. The extent of the fraud was so extensive and well worked out that agencies of government deliberately supplied contradictory information to different regulatory bodies — the finance ministry, Accountant General’s office, and th

IF NOT AJIBOLA, WHO ELSE? BY MR.RIGHTS For the first time since PDP conducted its primary election, I am coming out from my sit down look mode to contribute to the political logjam that the Kwara PDP are currently being confronted with. Like you all know, I hardly contribute to internal political issues since I am not a member of any political party, but since Senator S.S Ajibola emergence as PDP governorship candidate in Kwara State, many mind troubling comments and incidents have occurred. First of all, we must not forget why Kwara PDP is said to stand for freedom in the liberation struggle. Many opposition members in Kwara state went to PDP not because they are interested in the party itself, they did because Bukola Saraki had taken over the All Progressive Congress (APC) and since Kwarans always believe in the power of a superior federal might, many believed with the PDP’s incumbency status at the federal level, they could successfully defeat Bukola Saraki. Many who explained

Boko Haram may soon make Nigerian Army become history- Army commader tells Jonathan

In a desperate letter to President Goodluck Jonathan and Senate President David Mark leaked to SaharaReporters this past weekend, a commanding officer stationed in Nigeria's northeast details several troubling issues plaguing troops combatting Islamist terror group Boko Haram in the region. The officer stated that, corruption, maladministration, lack of resources and troops motivation has militated against a successful campaign to end Boko Haram's deadly reign of terror in the northeast. The officer's lengthy complaint which he claims would lead to a threat to his life forewarns that if his pleas continue to be ignored by the country's leadership that both the Nigerian Army and the country will crumble under the insurgency. "If all issues raised in this letter are not urgently addressed, the Nigerian Army will soon be history and by implication there will be no country called Nigeria," the officer gravely states. "No country without a strong army will
