Boko Haram militants killed 32 people and kidnapped scores of others in an attack on the village of Gumsuri in the restive northeast, two local officials and a witness said Thursday. The officials, who requested anonymity, said locals were still counting those abducted in the attack Sunday in the remote area but that the figure could pass 100 and included women and children. “After killing our youths, the insurgents have taken away our wives and daughters,” said Mukhtar Buba, who fled Gumsuri to the Borno state capital Maiduguri. OSOGBO—Justice Jide Falola of an Osun State High Court sitting in Okuku has sentenced two robbers to death for stealing fowls. The convicts, Olowookere Segun and Morakinyo Sunday, were found guilty of forcefully breaking into the house of one Mr. Balogun Tope, a police officer attached to Divisional Police headquarters, Okuku, in April 2010 and carting away some of his belongings. The convicts were charged with conspiracy, robbery and stealing contrary to Section 6(b) and 1(2)(a) of Robbery and Firearm (Special Provisions) Act, cap R 11 Laws of Federation of Nigeria 2004 and Section (390)(1) Criminal Code Law, Cap 34, Laws of Osun State, 2002. The prosecution team, led by the state Solicitor-General, Mrs Abiola Adewemimo, called six witnesses and tendered several exhibits during the prosecution. Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau, has threatened to attack the Emir of Kano, Muhummadu Sanusi II, in retaliation for the Emir’s call on Kano residents and other Nigerians to arm and defend themselves against the terror organization. In a new video released weekend, Mr. Shekau said his group does not consider Mr. Sanusi a true Muslim, and will attack him whenever an opportunity presents itself. The Emir had earlier issued a call to arms after a series of deadly attacks by suspected Boko Haram militants in Kano. Speaking at Kano’s central Mosque in October, the Emir charged the people of Kano to arm and defend themselves against the sect, which is responsible for more than 13,000 deaths. Nigeria Lost $7.92bn To Corruption In One Year’ A total of $7.92billion in illicit capital flowed of out Nigeria in 2012, according to the latest report released by the US-based non-profit research and advisory organisation, Global Financial Integrity (GFI). The mistake I made was I did not have the receipt and my ID on me. They put me in a danfo bus and headed to their station. On the way they picked up anybody they saw that had a bag on them. There was even a guy that had a laptop with him with his ID card and receipt that they picked "cause he was walking around with a laptop alone". They seized all our phones till we got to the police station. When we got to the police station they separated those of us that had laptops from those that didn't. All of us with laptops were branded yahoo boys. They told us to turn on our systems so they can analyse what was on the system. Eligibility For 2015: S-court Dismisses Suit Against Jonathan ABUJA-The Supreme Court, Tuesday, dismissed the suit seeking to stop President Goodluck Jonathan from vying for a re-election next year. A five-man panel of Justices of the apex court presided over by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN, Justice Mahmud Mohammed, struck out the appeal which was filed before it by a Chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, from Adamawa State, Dr. Umar Ardo. Human Rights Group Drags Buhari To ICC Over Alleged Crimes A Nigerian human rights group, the Northern Coalition for Democracy and Justice (NCDJ), on Monday, askedthe International Criminal Court (ICC) to bring charges against Muhammadu Buhari, for post-election violence in 2011.The group said in a statement that Buhari should face justice over the violence, which claimed 800 people’s lives and destroyed many churches and schools. The founder of the Latter Rain Assembly, pastor Tunde Bakare has accused former President, Olusegun Obasanjo of killing students’ unionism in the country when he was the military Head of State in 1978. Bakare, who was a running mate to Buhari in the last presidential election made the claim on Monday at the 2014 anniversary of the International Day of Students.
