Group raises alarm over threat to lives of critics and opposition in Kwara

Leading Pro-Democracy group in Kwara State, Kwara Must Change has uncovered plans to threaten and if possible, eliminate some critics and opposition leaders in the state ahead of 2019 general election.

The group made this known in a statement of alarm, made to caution those behind the plot as well as put the security agencies on notice.

In a statement by the group’s State coordinator, Comrade Yusuf Olatunji over the weekend, Kwara Must Change stated that some government critics and opposition leaders are being targeted by political thugs and assassins and it suspected that this unholy plan is the handiwork of the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

The group therefore cautions PDP and its leader, Senator Bukola Saraki, urging them to desist from going on with the violent plan ahead of the election, warning that should anything happen to any of the targeted people, the Senate President and the Kwara State government shall be held liable and responsible.

Recently, Kwara Must Change raised alarm about the influx of suspected political thugs and assassins, which it said are being camped in olohunda village at Asa local government and Eyenkorin in Ilorin West.

Kwara Must Change reiterates that election is not war and the violence that has been imposed on the state is condemn-able.

According to Comrade Yusuf, the opposition does not have the tendency or any capacity to cause violence, arguing that the APC governorship candidate, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq has been contesting election since 2011 and he has never been associated with violence in whatever capacity.

It called on all well-meaning kwarans to shun violence and focus on exercising their rights of electing leaders that will take the state to the next level.
