Why We Will Not Vote For Jonathan- PDP Chief

Ahead of President Goodluck Jonathan’s campaign visit to Ebonyi State, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, Hon Sylvester Igwe, has said that over 50 per cent of members of the party in the state, including citizens of the state would not vote for the re-election of President Jonathan in the forthcoming February 14 presidential election following what he described as the president’s inability to curb the activities of the Boko Haram Islamist insurgents, as well as his failure to ensure the release of the abducted Chibok girls. In an exclusive interview with LEADERSHIP in Abakaliki, the state capital, Hon Igwe claimed that the people of Ebonyi State and the nation in general are tired of President Jonathan’s lackadaisical attitude towards the continued killing of innocent Christians and Igbos in the North, and the non-prosecution of corrupt officials in his cabinet. He said the development of the country would be made possible if leaders found to be corrupt are arrested, prosecuted and made to refund funds looted from either state or federal treasuries. The PDP chieftain maintained that the country needed a change, saying that “since 1999 till date, our party has been in power and because of the belief that the party would continue to be in power for 60 years, those occupying different political positions on the platform of the party are the worst breed of politicians the country has ever produced since our independence.” He said, “It is painful when we read in the pages of newspapers how much the country has spent in curbing the menace of Boko Haram, yet no meaningful achievement has been recorded. We have lost count of the number of days our girls have been in the custody of the Boko Haram without any trace of them. “Those who loot the country’s resources and are wanted for corrupt practices are those who donate millions to his re-election campaign. “Our dear country is heading to the rocks with President Jonathan as the captain of the ship. Irrespective of party affiliation, what we need now is change. “In our dear state Ebonyi and other states of the federation where PDP conducted primaries, how many of those states would you say free, fair and credible primaries were conducted? There is problem in Enugu, Ebonyi, Akwa Ibiom, Imo, Rivers and his own state Bayelsa. “To the best of my knowledge, Nigerians can never trust him to take us to the Promised Land. It is most unfortunate that President Jonathan after a meeting with Governor Martin Elechi, informed the gathering and the governor that there won’t be primaries in four states, but to the surprise of many, his directive was jettisoned by the national leadership of PDP, yet he did nothing. We no longer need a weak president. We need a president that can tackle the challenges confronting the nation”. http://leadership.ng/news/401437/will-not-vote-jonathan
