Igbo Won’t Leave North, Aka Ikenga Replies Asari-dokubo

Igbo think-tank, Aka Ikenga, on Saturday said it will not heed the advice of the leader of Niger Delta Peoples Volunteer Force (NDPVF), Mujahid Dokubo-Asari, asking the Igbo in the Northern part of the country to leave. Its president, Goddy Uwazurike, in a telephone chat with Sunday Independent, said while Asari is free to give his advice, the Igbo are not under obligation to do as he said. Asari, at a press briefing in Abuja, had warned the Igbo and the members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), who currently reside in the North to return home, as they would have themselves to be blamed should anything happen to them. According to him, “All Igbo people who are there, if you don’t come back home and you want to continue to be there and something happens to you, there is nobody to be blamed. “If you have a child who is a youth corper and you allow him to be there, you will not hold anybody responsible.” But, Uwazurike, who said running away when somebody threatens, is a sign of cowardice, adding that Ndigbo are peace-loving people and will remain wherever they are during election period. While arguing that Nigerians are free to reside and do business everywhere as long as the country remains one, he also frowned at some people who are threatening war ahead of the election, saying, “Both victors and victims are losers in war”. http://dailyindependentnig.com/2015/01/ndigbo-wont-leave-north-aka-ikenga-replies-asari-dokubo/

In 1965, Nigeria was operating regionalism, in which every region was controlling its own resources when the first set of violent agitators picked up arms to express their grievances and confront the state violently. This was before the first military coup that eventually pushed the country into civil war. Court Sentences Two Men To Death For Stealing Fowls in Nigeria

OSOGBO—Justice Jide Falola of an Osun State High Court sitting in Okuku has sentenced two robbers to death for stealing fowls. The convicts, Olowookere Segun and Morakinyo Sunday, were found guilty of forcefully breaking into the house of one Mr. Balogun Tope, a police officer attached to Divisional Police headquarters, Okuku, in April 2010 and carting away some of his belongings. The convicts were charged with conspiracy, robbery and stealing contrary to Section 6(b) and 1(2)(a) of Robbery and Firearm (Special Provisions) Act, cap R 11 Laws of Federation of Nigeria 2004 and Section (390)(1) Criminal Code Law, Cap 34, Laws of Osun State, 2002. The prosecution team, led by the state Solicitor-General, Mrs Abiola Adewemimo, called six witnesses and tendered several exhibits during the prosecution.
