Police detain Edo Speaker over lawmakers attack   Mr.rights have learnt that, the Edo State Police Command on Thursday arrested the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Uyi Igbe, and the Majority Leader, Philip Shaibu, over the attack on a lawmaker, Abdulrazak Momoh. Momoh,   whose seat was declared vacant by the assembly in July, was said to have been attacked by thugs on Tuesday after he allegedly ignored the instruction of security men not to enter the legislative quarters. The Peoples Democratic Party lawmaker   was rushed to the Accident and Emergency Ward of the University of Benin Teaching Hospital. The PDP had in a statement by its Chairman, Chief Dan Orbih, on Wednesday, accused Shaibu and other APC lawmakers of masterminding the attack. President Goodluck Jonathan on Thursday said his administration’s strategy against corruption was to strengthen the capability of institutions to nip the menace in the bud.  He said his idea of anti-corruption war was not about arresting suspects and parading them on the television. Osun State Deputy Governor, Mrs. Titi Laoye-Tomori, among other dignitaries, watched in admiration how a drone built by a corps member posted to Osun State took off and carried out surveillance of the parade ground at the Permanent Orientation Camp of the National Youth Service Corps on Monday. The corps member, Olaolu Ayoola, a graduate of Computer Science/ Engineering of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso, stole the show with his project during the closing ceremony of the orientation course for the 2014 batch ‘C’ of corps members deployed in the state. The drone, which soldiers and other security agents present at the event described as a good one, flew for about 10 minutes before it landed. The device, fixed with a surveillance camera, can stay in the air for 20 minutes and is capable of climbing up to 500 metres. Eligibility For 2015: S-court Dismisses Suit Against Jonathan ABUJA-The Supreme Court, Tuesday, dismissed the suit seeking to stop President Goodluck Jonathan from vying for a re-election next year. A five-man panel of Justices of the apex court presided over by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN, Justice Mahmud Mohammed, struck out the appeal which was filed before it by a Chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, from Adamawa State, Dr. Umar Ardo. Delivering the ruling, the CJN, accused Ardo of inviting the Supreme Court to arrest a proceeding pending before the Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal. Human Rights Group Drags Buhari To ICC Over Alleged Crimes A Nigerian human rights group, the Northern Coalition for Democracy and Justice (NCDJ), on Monday, askedthe International Criminal Court (ICC) to bring charges against Muhammadu Buhari, for post-election violence in 2011.The group said in a statement that Buhari should face justice over the violence, which claimed 800 people’s lives and destroyed many churches and schools. The ICC has been looking into possible war crimes in Nigeria since 2010.The NCDJ alleged that the violence included murder, torture and rape systematically directed at perceived non-supporters of Buhari.
