I do not know Gbemi Saraki

Image
I do not know Gbemi Saraki and she doesn't know me. I have never seen Gbemi Saraki and she has never seen me. I have never spoken to Gbemi Saraki ans she has never spoken with me. But I ask for fairness and respect, not for Gbemi Saraki, but for everyone, including you. This is why I am called Mr.Right. When you hear people call me Mr.Right, it is not because I am always right, but because i always stand for truth and human rights. Ladies and Gentlemen, Did I ask the opposition to give Gbemi Saraki ticket to run for office? No. Did I ask you to support Gbemi Saraki? No. Did I ask you, not to hold Gbemi accountable for her 12 years at the National Assembly? No. So, what did I ask from the opposition? Treat everyone, including Gbemi Saraki fairly and justly. Few days ago, when I published an essay titled ‘’Gbemi Saraki and Kwara opposition’’, I was bombarded with messages and calls, from friends and associates. Few minutes after the essay was published, the calls start...

Gbemi Saraki and Kwara Opposition

Image
Many have sorted my view on the defection trends that has been taking place in recent days, particularly in Kwara State. Some have called, tagged me on facebook and sent messages on whatsapp, seeking to know what my opinion is and where I belong. For me, that is not the most pressing issue needing attention. For any freedom loving Kwaran, there is an important matter that should be addressed. This is the most important matter at the moment. It’s the issue of Gbemi Saraki. Some people call her okere. According to one of my friend, ‘’anti Gbemi is okere tin mu koki’’. Make una no laugh ooo, olohun o ni pa wa le kun. Gbemi is the beautiful daughter of Baba Saraki and like me, you may not be a fan of her father’s politics, but you can’t take away her alluring, exquisite, comely, pulchritudinous and statuesque look. Kai, somebody may say, ‘’ebo yi po’’ bee ni, opo, she is that beautiful. Abi be ko? On a serious note, I made use of all these words to describe her beauty because so...

Why did nobody do anything?

One morning at our Law College, when our new teacher for "Introduction to Rights" entered the classroom, the first thing he did was to ask the name of a student who was seated on the first bench: "What is your name?" "My name is Juan, Sir." "Leave the classroom and I don't want to ever see you in my class ever!" screamed the unpleasant teacher. Juan was bewildered. When he got hold of his senses, he got up quickly, collected his belongings and left the classroom. All were scared and angry; however nobody spoke anything. "Well, let's start the class," said the new teacher. "What purpose do the enacted laws serve?" We were afraid, but slowly gained confidence and we began to answer his questions. "So that there is order in our society." "No!" the teacher shouted. "So that people pay for their wrong actions?" "No! Doesn't anybody here have enough brains to know ...

What friendship can do for peace

Image
By Abdulrazaq O Hamzat Friendship has capacity to inspire peace against all anti-peace forces, no matter how long and bitter the war has been fought. This is what we have learned from Abiy Ahmed (41), the new Prime Minister of Ethiopia in his quest to end his country’s 20 years war with neighboring Eritrea. The youngest leader in Africa chose friendship, not enmity and rather than waste so much time and resources setting up peace commission to discuss possible ways of achieving peace between both countries, the Ethiopian Prime Minister created friendship with his country’s long time enemy and within weeks, their friendship metamorphosed into peace, a deal both leaders say was based on forgiving each other for past offensess’’. This is what friendship can do for peace. When I heard that 33 export larger beer is hosting an essay competition, whose theme is circled around friendship this July, i know those behind this idea are up to something unique. The idea of an essay competitio...

BREATH TAKING RACIAL INJUSTICE AT THE WORLD BANK AGAINST BLACKS

Image
Few days ago, I stumbled upon a publication talking about racial injustice at the World Bank and I thought it wise to dig a little deeper to understand the crux of the matter. However, what I found was beyond believe. It was heart breaking and out rightly demoralizing and i am forced to ask, is this how endemic racial injustice takes place at the World Bank? President of Hosea Initiative, Terry Beatley wrote an open letter to the new Ethiopian Prime Minister, Abiy Ahmed, calling on the youngest African leader to use his good office to seek African Union (AU) intervention in the case of one Dr. Yonas Biru an Ethiopian citizen, racially violated beyond human comprehension at the World Bank. In the letter, Terry brought together all relevant facts and evidences to back up the need for action at Africa’s continental highest body. ABOUT THE VICTIM Dr. Biru was the former Deputy Global Manager of the World Bank’s International Comparison Programme (ICP). According to the World Ban...

Nigerians are political collateral by Mathias Tsado

Image
POLITICAL COLLATERAL (1) One thing is clear to all of us, politics as it is today only cares about power and the holders. The people on the streets are nothing but political collateral, they use you to bargain and dump you once power is secured. The people are only useful during the negotiations, they count the people as votes and elections materials every 4years, once the deals are sealed and the proceeds are shared they move on and begin to plot the next scheme, the people are left with the various social challenges to complain about for another four years. The most lucrative business in Nigeria now is the political business and a lot of people have moved into that sector with expectations to hit or make it big in life. Like yahoo-yahoo and illegal drug dealers, many on the political street today are here to make ends meet and acquire that luxurious life of drug barons they see in the movies. They know nothing about the moral burden of leadership, they do not understand that...

Nigeria Air took the space

Image
Was keeping quiet but then, Nigeria Air took the space. Let’s clear some misconceptions, first there is no Nigeria Air. There is an idea, a desire and some actions to bring the idea to reality. We are still far away. What the minister showcased in UK, was a concept. It was a market test for a desire. The brand is still at infant stage. The ICRC gave a certificate to launch based on some guarantees. The FG can only invest 5% of the total sum, subject to finding investors that will put in the 95%. That is yet to happen. There has been no budget request for the 5%. The planned plane purchase is not funded. I, did not see any $300m in the budget for planes. The roadshow is to find investors. It might happen and it might not. Can we slow down on the name calling and insults? Nigeria on paper belongs to us all. One is not unpatriotic for voicing concerns. Of State owned airlines in Africa, only one is profitable. The rest are subsidised. That knowledge, makes it important that...
