NANS admit Open University Student body as member

The Senate Arm of the Nigeria Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has approved the Membership Status of National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) vide Congress of NOUN Students on a full blown structure of NANS the CONS Public relation officer, Comrade A.L Oyetoro has said.

Comrade Oyetoro declared that, this was stated in the communique released and signed by the NANS Senate President Comr. Taiwo Bamigbade, Mohammed Saba (Chairman Comminque Drafting Committee) and Comr. A. Kola (Secretary Comminque Drafting Committee) after the 74th Senate Meeting / Pre-Convention held in Minna, Niger State.

The Senate called on the National Executive of NANS to moderate the NOUN Zonal and National Congress and called for a member representative in the National Senate arm of NANS.

Police detain Edo Speaker over lawmakers attack   Mr.rights have learnt that, the Edo State Police Command on Thursday arrested the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Uyi Igbe, and the Majority Leader, Philip Shaibu, over the attack on a lawmaker, Abdulrazak Momoh. Momoh,   whose seat was declared vacant by the assembly in July, was said to have been attacked by thugs on Tuesday after he allegedly ignored the instruction of security men not to enter the legislative quarters. The Peoples Democratic Party lawmaker   was rushed to the Accident and Emergency Ward of the University of Benin Teaching Hospital. The PDP had in a statement by its Chairman, Chief Dan Orbih, on Wednesday, accused Shaibu and other APC lawmakers of masterminding the attack. President Goodluck Jonathan on Thursday said his administration’s strategy against corruption was to strengthen the capability of institutions to nip the menace in the bud.  He said his idea of anti-corruption war was not about arresting suspects and parading them on the television. Corps Member Builds & Tests Drone In Osun

Osun State Deputy Governor, Mrs. Titi Laoye-Tomori, among other dignitaries, watched in admiration how a drone built by a corps member posted to Osun State took off and carried out surveillance of the parade ground at the Permanent Orientation Camp of the National Youth Service Corps on Monday. The corps member, Olaolu Ayoola, a graduate of Computer Science/ Engineering of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso, stole the show with his project during the closing ceremony of the orientation course for the 2014 batch ‘C’ of corps members deployed in the state. The drone, which soldiers and other security agents present at the event described as a good one, flew for about 10 minutes before it landed. The device, fixed with a surveillance camera, can stay in the air for 20 minutes and is capable of climbing up to 500 metres. It was revealed that, going by the media reports in 1994, the Rwandan genocide was often portrayed as a conflict based on ancient hatred between people who had been killing each other in such a manner for hundreds of years. Eligibility For 2015: S-court Dismisses Suit Against Jonathan ABUJA-The Supreme Court, Tuesday, dismissed the suit seeking to stop President Goodluck Jonathan from vying for a re-election next year. A five-man panel of Justices of the apex court presided over by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN, Justice Mahmud Mohammed, struck out the appeal which was filed before it by a Chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, from Adamawa State, Dr. Umar Ardo. Delivering the ruling, the CJN, accused Ardo of inviting the Supreme Court to arrest a proceeding pending before the Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal.
