Following the improved counter terrorism activities of the Nigeria Army against the dreaded Boko Haram insurgency group in North East, Foundation for Peace Professionals (FPP) in its usual practice visited Borno State, the foundation place for Boko Haram. FPP team in North East, headed by the North East Director, Mr. Alkasim Aliyu embarked on a 5 days situation visit to Maiduguri, Borno State capital from 11th -15th of May, 2018 to assess the living condition of the people, as well as the economic situation. In our visit, it was discovered that Borno state is experiencing the best of time now since 2011, as economic situation, educational progression and other developmental activities are getting better by the day. This is contrary to most media reports which seem to be exaggerating the security situation, particularly in Maiduguri, the state capital. This improvement we observed, in addition to military activities, can be credited to several factors, such as improved activi...
United States of America may be better than Nigeria in many ways, but there are also areas Nigeria is better than U.S. I have compiled just 15 of them for a start. Read and leave your comment. 1. Intelligence and smartness Nigerians are the most intelligent people in the world. Yes, they are the smartest you find anywhere in the world. However, the problem with intelligent and smart people is that, in anything they do, their intelligence and smartness come to play and others in the same circle hardly match their rare skills. In business, they will be intelligent and smart, in education, they will be intelligent and smart, in music and entertainment, they will be intelligent and smart and also in criminality, they will be intelligent and smart. As we all know, negative stories sells faster than anything else and this explains why Nigerian criminals are also world famous for their craft. Nigerian criminals, particularly the internet scammers are not in any way more dangerous than...
Mention five states in Nigeria that are considered not peaceful based on public perception? That was the question that shaped the private conversation I had with two veteran media personalities and crisis communication experts this past week. It was an unplanned discussion about the role of media in communicating events and shaping perceptions. As we are all aware, media communication in our culture is said to hold an influential place in disseminating information, forming attitudes and motivating behavior. However, according to the conclusion in a Conference of Catholic Churches (CCC, no. 2489), ‘’the more our culture moved away from acceptance of objective truth, the more it has moved toward the culture of opinions’’, which in my view is largely shaped by media reports and perception. On Friday, April 6, 2018, Foundation for Peace Professionals (FPP) publicly unveiled the maiden edition of Nigeria Peace Index (NPI) report in Abuja, Nigeria’s Federal Capital. Nigeria Peace Index...
By Abdulrazaq O Hamzat Self determined Nnamdi Azikwe on campaign in 1959 Nigeria Police Force is generally regarded as one of the most corrupt institutions in Nigeria, but how corrupt really is the Nigerian Police and to what extent do they perpetrate their acts of corruption? This is what I tried to find out in my recent trip to Ilorin from Abuja. On 8th May 2018, I embarked on a road trip from Abuja to Ilorin. This is not an ordinary trip like others; it is more like going on a fact finding mission. Before embarking on the trip, I had gone through the route many times and i understand that commercial drivers often part with their hard earned money at every police check points. However, my mission on this trip was to find out, if it is possible for a commercial driver to drive pass these police check points without paying a bribe. On the day of my journey, I woke up early, so as to get to park early and have brief engagement with the drivers. When I got there, i requested t...
Mrrightsng can exclusively report that a Nigerian writer, Elias Ozikpu, has commenced a N15billion legal proceedings at the Lagos Division of the Federal High Court against an Ogun State based publishing house, Melrose Books and Publishing Limited over the theft of his intellectual property, HEROES OF THE NIGHT,a literary work describe by the publishing company as possible best seller. Documents obtained by MrRightsng revealed that the writer had entered into agreement with Melrose Books and Publishing Limited in September of 2012 for the publication of his literary work entitled: ‘HEROES OF THE NIGHT’. Responding to several correspondences written by the author to the publisher to enquire the status of his work, the publishing house claimed throughout that it had not been able to publish HEROES OF THE NIGHT owing to the magnitude of work at its disposal, particularly the preparation of its curriculum-based titles for primary and secondary schools. The author, obviously frustr...
I have read many opinions on the purported N50 million G-wagon vehicle that Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila gifted to his wife on her 50years birthday. I have also seen the reactions of people, regarding his multi million naira suit on that special occasion. Let me start by saying that, I congratulate Mrs Gbajabiamila on her 50th birthday. I even congratulate her more, for retaining the love and affection of her beloved husband. This is the most important gift, not the G wagon. G wagon is a vehicle and vehicle have just a purpose. To convey you from one place to another and I don't think it's a sign of love to gift a lover expensive vehicle. To be honest, peoples reaction on the matter is not out of place. If you represent millions of people as their leader, earning millions of naira in their name, yet most of them are struggling to have 3 square meals and you went ahead to buy a car worth 50m as gift to your wife, while wearing a suit that cost over a million, there is noth...
