Atiku leads APC poll with wide margin

DAILYPOST Poll: Buhari demystified as Atiku floors ‘the People’s General’ By Sylvester Ugwuanyi on December 5, 2014 If DAILY POST readers were to be delegates that will populate the National Convention of the All Progressives Congress, APC slated for December 10 and 11, 2014, former Vice-President, Alhaji Atiku Abubarkar, will be handed the presidential ticket of the party on a platter. This is as they have voted overwhelmingly in an online poll conducted by this newspaper to show their support for the presidential aspiration of Atiku under the platform of APC. However, the supposed victory of the former Vice-President at the poll was contradicted by an inherent corroborative measure which comes with the DAILY POST poll. This refers to the alternative means of voting that allows respondents to also vote through their comments in a bid to produce a foolproof result. In this regard, Buhari routed Atiku as well as the other aspirants by attracting endorsements from an outstanding majority of all who made valid comments. The former Head of State’s impressive showing in this part of the poll confirms the generally-held belief that he enjoys a cult followership. For his supporters went beyond merely voting in support of him into sealing it with their comments. What informed the question for this poll? APC presidential aspirants have been traversing virtually all parts of the country wooing the party’s delegates for votes. At every turn, they are seen and heard telling all who cared to listen how they are the most qualified for the job, albeit, admitting that every one of them is better than the presumed candidate of the People’s Democratic party (PDP), President Goodluck Jonathan. Other APC stalwarts have also refused to be silent on this. Some of them even go as far as predicting that another four years of President Jonathan in office will be disastrous for the nation. This postulations coupled with the fact that the epic APC primaries is already lurking led DAILY POST to ask its readers who they think is the best aspirant APC should present in next year’s presidential election as its candidate. The options were as follow: Sam Nda-Isaiah, Mohammadu Buhari, Rochas Okorocha, Atiku Abubarkar and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso. How they fared: This particular poll which came on stream on Monday, December 1 was closed by 12 pm (local time) on Friday, December 5, 2014. Between the time frame, there were a total of 5,367 clicks on the options that answer the questions asked. Out of these clicks, 3,013 (56.14 per cent) were in favour of Atiku Abubarkar; 1,900 (35. 04 per cent) went for Mohammadu Buhari; 232 (4.32 per cent) favoured Rochas Okorocha; 147 (2.74 per cent) were recorded to Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso while Sam Nda-Isaiah brought up the rare with 75 votes constituting 1.04 per cent. For the comments generated by the poll, a total of 438 raked in. They were collated from the poll’s portal which had 12, DAILY POST website had 101 and the newspaper’s Facebook page where 325 respondents posted their comments as at when the poll was closed. The gross figure of 438 ultimately thinned to 372 valid comments when scrutinized. From these reliable comments, 234 constituting 62.90 per cent clamoured for Buhari to be given the APC presidential ticket, 35 others (9.41 per cent) rooted for Atiku. Those who sought for it to be given to Rochas were 30 (8.06 per cent), Kwankwaso’s supporters on this numbered 15 (4.03 per cent) while seven people consisting 1.88 per cent would rather want Nda-Isaiah to get the ticket. Meanwhile, some respondents took advantage of the freedom afforded them by the comment box to unequivocally state that they do not see any good presidential material from the lot. Those with this conviction, whose position got accommodated in the survey were 50 in number and they constituted 13.44 per cent of valid respondents. Some cogent reactions worthy of note: Out of the total 438 comments generated, there were vital postulations made by some readers which cannot be overlooked. There were some others who arrogated unto themselves the status of king makers as they instructed APC and party faithful who should be paired with their preferred presidential aspirants. These comments are hereby presented below, just the way the bloggers wrote them. This newspaper intentionally refused to edit the comments in anyway whatsoever just for you to relish the raw passion of the writers… Abucheadams Atiku’s vision and dedication distinguish him from the other aspirants; he has worked very hard to prove he understands the way forward for this country. He is the best candidate to fly the presidential flag of the APC. #ANigeriaForAll I think Atiku is the best man due to the fact he is the most experienced and has more knowledge in workings of democracy@the highest levels having held the number 2 post for 8 years. Babajide Balogun Atiku is the only candidate who has what it takes to defeat PDP. GMB has made certain religious and ethnic inflammatory statements in the past that will make majority of Nigerians not comfortable with him during the general elections. He is also not entirely free of corruption. The 2.8 Billion that was missing during his tenure as Petroleum Minister can be used against him. Atiku is organised and has the resources and a formidable team to challenge the PDP with. Silas Joseph Onu Each of the great men listed in this poll is by far better than President Goodluck Jonathan. Any of them can do better. However, I do believe that Nigeria needs the best man now as the mess is massive. A man that combines the political savvy and administrative know how. A man with a plan that can be measured with the SMART tool. Atiku Abubakar is the man for now and he can do the job needed for Nigeria and all Nigerians sirOscie. Atiku Abubakar is obviously better prepared than other APC aspirants because of clear and well “ATIKULATED” vision and objectives for Nigeria and Nigerians. #ANigeriaForAll. Princemas Buhari is the only one that has the antecedent of anti-corruption, he had been tried severally even during the worse regime (present regime is the worst) of corruption but he did not fail. He was a Minister of Petroleum and Chairman PTF, he did not amass wealth like the current set of ministers. He is disciplined. Hence, as everybody knows that corruption is the main problem of our land, that means Buhari that has the antecedent should be the one that will be taking. BUHARI IS OUR MAN! best How did Atiku get that kind of vote. Something is wrong. Buhari is the best ADE OMO OKUN If we say we are fighting corruption in our land, we need somebody that had a clean past, sentiments apart. General Muhammed Buhari displayed an open hatred for sorruption as a military president. To this end, we need sb like Gen. Buhari to lead us to fight this hydra. My vote is for GMB Rev Simoco As for me, to actualize the long awaited better Nigeria, GMB is good but age is seriously telling on him. let’s say his spirit join with active vibrant young leader like Rochas “man of the masses” to actualize this long awaited better Nigeria. Remember the adage that says “youths are the future leaders of any great nation ” let Rochas stand while GMB backed him with his great leadership strength, we all will witnesses the long awaited better Nigeria. God bless the masses, God bless the leaders, God bless Nigeria. ABDULHADI The diffrent between PDP and APC is Buhari. APC minus Buhari is equal to PDP. APC-Buhari =PDP mohammad Any candidate other than buhari is workover for PDP. Aminu Umar Sa’ad Actually Atiku has a good economic plan nd mechanisms if he can implement them the way it was planned. As for my choice I stand for GMB, because he is the only candidate who has the mental capacity nd temperament to fight corruption to the bearest minimum. Am also not too dispose with the way Atiku is being sharing money in most of the states he visited, this was exactly what destroyed PDPs internal democracy, let him please cease his desperation to power nd play according to the rule of the game. Fatai Adeniyi The best and most trust worthy among them is Gen. Muhamodu Buhari. He is the one that can safe Nigeria from this terible situation that Gudluck Jonathan had put Nigeria into. richy spices Buhari killd our young democracy, when he took power by force. Buhari is old 2rule the leaders of tomowrow. Buhari is multivate religeous violence Ikeagwu Nneke As unpopular as my Sam Nda-Isaiah may seem in this poll. I will still vote for him. Nigerians has been taken for a ride for so long by professional politicians. It is only fair we allow someone without any political luggage and baggage to lead us for a change. Since APC preaches Change, I expect them to give Nda-Isaiah who represents change the chance to become its flag bearer in the 2015 presidential poll. I’m sure Nigerians will overwhelmingly vote for him against the out-of-wits Jonathan PDP is fielding. Majekodunmi Tunde The only reason I will prefare Gen Buhari (Rtd) as the flag bearer is because this country needs DISCIPLINE in all ramifications of life. From its top down to the grassroot. Once, discipline is installed in everyone of us then I believe the required change needed/aspired by everyone will begin to take effect and consequently, this will lead to a system that works. Itiope Godwin I am ernestly not surprised by the good showing Atiku is recording in this poll. He worked for it unlike Buhari who had all along being under the delusion that the blessing of the party leaders will see him through. Thank goodness APC is going by primaries as against imposition. The result I’m seeing from this poll is a fore taste of what will happen at the primaries. Atiku will surely carry the day as he is a great mobilizer with deep pocket. Jayesimi Joseph Can someone please explain to me what is happening in this poll? I have followed comments on the poll both on Facebook and on the site and all I see is people mentioning Buhari as their preferred candidate yet the result of the poll keep favouring Atiku. I thought he is winning on account of multiple voting and I tried voting more than once but couldn’t. I wait to see how Sylvester will analyse this… Let APC delegates be guided by the result of this poll. Samuel Okopi I vote for Buhari any day any time. I am lost as to how Atiku will be leading in this poll when virtually all the comments I have seen, especially on Facebook, are in support of Buhari. I just hope PDP is not the one mobilizing TAN members to vote for Atiku in this poll so as to decieve APC leaders into giving the ticket to Atiku. This is very possible as Jonathan can easily beat Atiku at the election unlike Baba Buhari who will be a hard nut for him to crack. The lead Atiku is enjoying in this poll is a fluke that can’t withstand thorough scrutiny. etc Atiku is a better candidate, he is the only candidate that have the qualities required to face the problems we have in this country, for instance, how can Buhari solve the problem of unemployment when he has never been into the system, he’s never into business not even a business man so what does he understand about employment? For insecurity he has never proffered solutions even as an elder statesman. On education u should not expect a man who can not even speak a simple English to be our president at this digital age, I expected Buhari to have acquired more education at his age, u should know what I mean. Buhari is just a turnoff. Mahmoud Gov, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso is the most qualified. His political CV is richer than the other aspirants. He is young, focused, discplined and visionary. How he turned Kano state around is for all to see and judge. Joseph John Buhari & Rochas best pple 4 nigeria now pls let stop religion sentiment, abeg let vote them the to power ok Aregbesola Adeolu Buhari & ameshi is the best Almustafa Shehu Adili Buhari/fashola Isma’il Musa Muhammad Buhari as President, Rochas as VP. These are the best combination for Nigeria Insha Allah… Chikodi Ezealla I wil vote Rochas bicos he is Rescuo mison govanor he wil allso come to de rescuo of Nigeria so he disave it Owolabi David Blessing Buhari/ ameachi Dayo Erimiakhena Buhari, a no nonsense man Adebayo Adekunle S Buhari and Fayola Barnabas Clement Barnabas GMB/Rochas Kazeem Ola Subair Buhari Ameachi Muh’d Buhari Mu’azu Muhammadu buhari president / Rochas okorocha vice Bello Baba Wow people really love BUHARI, how i wish these corrupt and evil politician give him chance this time. Ahmed Suleiman Buhari the most popular and trusted Dolapo Tella Attoni Buhari in terms of followership and personal integrity. Then Atiku in terms of his having presented and Articulated a better economic programme Louis Uzoma Rochas is the best,if APC want to win. Kareem Abdulrahman Buhari has no comparison with these aspirants. Abdullahi Jika Atiku and others should support BUHARI Abdul Shaibu GMB is beta, even beta than GEJ 1million times Ojo Francis My vote goes to Buhari. He will be a better candidate. I pray they (PDP) will not use power of incumbent to scuttle the arrangement. Ogbeni Dayo Ofere Buhari/Amechi 2015….To God be the glory Uduophori Dennis Atiku/OSHOMOHLE Aminu Hussaini Bakori GMB & Rochas Abubakar Sanusi for Me Buhari is the best among them but, Atiku is the only person who is more prepared to govern this country than any other candidate Muh’d Buhari Mu’azu Buhari/Rochas 2015…… Rochas/kwankwaso 2o22
