Olawepo-Hashim condemns killing of APC supporters at Lagos rally

Calls on Nigerians to reject politics of violence

Presidential candidate of People’s Trust (PT), Mr. Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim, has condemned the violence at the Lagos rally of the All Progressives Congress (APC) where thugs of political rivals fired gunshots at one another, killing two persons in the process while many people sustained various degrees of injury in the pandemonium that ensued.

Olawepo-Hashim, according to a statement issued in Abuja by his Chief Press Secretary, Hassan Ibrahim, described the incident as ominous and called on Nigerians to take note of the violent dimension that the governing party has introduced into the campaigns for the forthcoming general election.

He also urged Nigerians to profile the conducts of parties and candidates who want to lead them before making informed decisions on whom to vote into offices.

“I call on Nigerians and the international community to reject APC’s politics of violence and desperation, which should not be encouraged in decent societies.

A resort to violence is a clear indication that the APC is incapable of conducting issue-based campaigns. This is an opportunity for Nigerians to profile all of us before casting their votes in the election,” he stated.
Olawepo-Hashim said that “the show of shame at the Lagos rally while Governor Akinwunmi Ambode was addressing APC supporters and crowd at the Skypower Ground, Ikeja G.R.A. diminishes the ruling party and portrays it as desperate for power.”

He, however, assured Nigerians that “People’s Trust, as a party, provides a robust alternative to the APC and other parties whose philosophy is promotional of violence and coercion,” adding that “both our party and my presidential candidature have the capacity to act responsibly as custodians of the sacred trust and mandate of Nigerians. As Nigerians can see, we have been exemplary in our conduct”
