THE HEIGHT OF IGBO TRIBALIRRESPONSIBILITY BY MR.RIGHTS
THE HEIGHT OF IGBO TRIBALIRRESPONSIBILITY
BY MR.RIGHTS
Tribalism among igbo
populace in Nigeria is gradually becoming a shame to human reasoning and
failure to reverse such an ugly trend may someday lead the igbo’s and indeed
Nigeria to a terrible situation.
While objective
tribalism may be inevitable some times, the irresponsibility usually displayed
by igbo tribalist is becoming a source of worry even to fellow igbo’s.
On independence day,
october 1st 2014, a shocking message by an igbo tribalist who goes by
the name Ambrose Nwaogwugwu from Imo state surfaced on facebook complaining
about a perceived attempt of islamization of imo state by the state governor
Rochas okorocha.
According to the writer
who titled his writing‘’ Emperor Rochas Finally Cedes IBC to Hausa’’,, he said,
finally, emperor Olaniyi Abdul Rochas has ceded Imo state to his Hausa
brothers.
Wondering what has
transpired in Imo state to warrant and justify such an extremely tribal
irresponsibility, Mr.rights quickly opened the writing to read the details of
the incident, only to realize nothing really happened apart from a radio
program to be aired in hausa language.
The writer wrote,’’Imo
state broadcasting Corporation (IBC) is now broadcasting to Ndi Imo in Hausa
language for several minutes and as I type, they have been broadcasting live in
Hausa language.’’ He went further to write that,‘’he called on well meaning
Imolite to resist this open Islamization of their dear Imo state by the
governor’’.
From the above
information, its difficult for anyone to assume that any reasonable person
would be so tribal to go social, claiming an attempt of islamization is taking
place as a result of airing a program in
hausa langauage on a radio station, but it was worrisome that some fellow igbo
tribalist quickly joined in this unholy venture to share in this tribal
irresponsibility.
While educating the
poster, someone who goes by the name king promxy Jonathan wrote, ‘’dats how
kano state do on their radio station called igbo guest’’.
But the tribal writer quickly
responded‘’kano radio station, you must be joking’’. He went further to write,
‘’I don’t know what our emperor gain to achieve by that’’.
Another commentator
Anita Chinwe Herbert wrote, ‘’even in Edo state here, both our state owned
radio and tv stations have igbo programmes.
And another poster also
wrote, ‘’imo is no more that rural state you people made it to remain for
12years, you cannot hold imo back’’’.
But the initiator of
the post responded by saying, ‘’so, hausa people taking over our state owned
radio station has now turned to going forward abi?’’
Again, another
tribalist who goes by the name Ekemezi macdonald wrote: ‘’ how many igbo people
live in kano compared to imo? In kano, the broadcast obviously is making money
out of ndi igbo. This is uncalled for as this hausa broadcast is certainly
free.
While some fellow igbo
nationalists were trying to correct this tribal irresponsibility, he was still
adamant along with his other groups of tribalists.
A commentator who goes by
the name Erickson Prex Celestine tries to caution against such irresponsible
comment, he wrote, ‘’this is primitivity and unhealthy tribalism. ‘’. He noted
that, if Imo broadcasting Corporation (IBC) licensed by National Broadcasting
Corporation (NBC) not by Imo state governor feels like broadcasting in other
langauges, does that means they are taking over our father’s farm land?
He asked, ‘’why must
you guys always fan the ember of discord and mislead people into perpetration
of crime and crises? Adding that, if the hausa’s paid for program, shouldn’t
they enjoy what they paid for?
He further wrote that,
‘’You people should try and travel out (from the state) and stop hovering at a
location and know what’s happening everywhere. This local champion and
primitivity need to be addressed.
But despite the wise
counsel, other respondent continue to lambast the governor.
One Richard Capital
wrote: It is only federal stations that can broadcast in any language, but for
state owned radio station, it most be its dialect.
Morgan Akobundu also wrote, ‘’this aboki Rochas again? One
day, we will run away in this state.
Another tribalist with
the name, Bruno Dozie Okonkwo also wrote: Orient 94.40 FM owerri has been there
during the time of Governor Tanko Zubiro, During Alhaji Tofa/Sylvester
Campaign,During Udenwa redemption 1998, but this is his first time of hearing
Hausa program.
Again, another
commentator by the name Max Chinedu also justifies the comment. He wrote,
‘’those who are busy attacking the writer should stop and learn/understand why
he his right. He state that, it is only on federal or private radio station
that such a language is allowed, not state radio which is meant for speaking
native dialect to educate the indigenes, especially the elderly people who
doesn’t understand english language.
He maintained that,
Okorocha is gradually Imo state and igbo at large for islamization. We shall
never allow half igbo to be used by our enemies to islamize our land he wrote.
He declared that,
Okorocha must be stopped for igbo culture to be revived. According to him, if
we don’t wake up now to work fast, what happened to yoruba’s in kwara state
will happen to igbo’s in imo state where hausa fulani’s chase away, killed some
oba’s/kings and traditional chief priest. He concluded that,If care is not
taken, one day, igbo’s will wake up and hear that Imo Broadcasting corporation
has been sold to a northerner.
It is important to note
that, all over the north, radio programs are being aired on a daily basis in
igbo languge and no one ever complained, neither did anyone ever claimed such
is an attempt by the igbos to take over the north.
Radio programmes in igbo
language has been on air in state owned radio stations in kano, kaduna, kwara
and many other northern state across the federal since as far as 1980’s, but
becase such program is introduced in Imo state, igbo tribalist went online
campigning for hate and calling for social disorder.
This is the height of
tribal irresponsibility ever witnessed and the earlier these tribal champions
are called to order, the better.
Igbo people enjoy equal
liberty in other parts of the country, but when such liberty is extended to
other Nigerians living in the eastern part of the country, some igbo tribalist
goes up in flame claiming their land is being taken over or being islamized. This
must be stopped.
