I ESCAPED FORCEFUL RECRUITEMENT BY BOKOHARAM - Student

A 200l political science student of University of Maiduguri (name withheld) explained how he was almost forcefully recruited by the dreaded boko haram terrorist group in Maiduguri.

He noted that, many are being forcefully recruited on a daily basis and he urged military authorities to as a matter of urgency, prevent such recruitment, adding that it would ensure a quicker end to the terrorist activities.

According to him, ‘’before my encounter with bokoharam group in that encounter, I have heard about how they usually capture people and either recruit them forcefully or kill them out-rightly, but on this very day, I was sitting with some of people in the area and suddenly, some young men about 5 came besides us’’.

‘’We didn’t suspect anything at first, they were like the normal people you see everyday. We were just sitting there chating, but few minutes later, one of them came more closer and greeted us, saying he has come for peace. Before we knew what was happening, the remaining four (4) also joined him and one opened his shirt, we saw bullets and other things we don’t even know about ‘’.

He added that, as soon as he saw this, he didn’t mind what would happen afterward, he instantly took off and others follow suite, but it seems someone was grabbed from among people sitting he explained.

The escapee stated that, they later learned that those people who tried to kidnap them were boko haram members and came in larger numbers, but they packed their cars somewhere else to avoid being suspected.

He commended the Civilian JTF who came on time and was able to save some of the people captured and killed 2 of the sect members before they ran away.
According to him, this is how boko haram have been going around the state kidnapping and forcefully recruiting innocent Nigerians into their fold.

While commending the military for its efforts in containing the sects activities, he noted that, the most disturbing part of the story is that if they kidnap people in such manner, the sect quickly transport them to an unknown location and inject them with all sort of things, adding that after some times, these victims are the people you see with guns killing for bokoharam.

In his opinion, some of these people being killed are these victims of forceful recruitment by the dreaded sect.

He advised that, the war may likely continue if the military authorities didn’t prevent bokoharam from having such opportunity, urging them to locate the sects base for total destruction. ‘END.
