Kwara Must Change is alarmed by the unfortunate silence of the Kwara State government over the brutal killings of young people in Lafiaji town by trigger happy soldiers at the call of Mr. Sha’aba Lafiaji, a senator representing Kwara North senatorial district.
The extra judicial killings claimed 3 lives and many others are still lying in critical conditions. On 17th November 2017, youths protesting against misrepresentation by Sen. Sha’aba Lafiaji were brutally murdered in Lafiaji town, Edu Local Government of Kwara State for demanding accountability.
However, since this unfortunate incident happened, there has been no official reaction from either the state or local government. We strongly condemn this conspiracy of silence.
The Local Government chairman of Edu Local Government, in whose territory the wicked act took place has not deemed it proper to acknowledge the sad incident that claimed many lives under his watch; neither did the Kwara State Governor, who is the chief security officer of the state.
It appeared government is trying to protect culprits of this massacre, but we shall not allow that to happen. In furtherance to our determination to demand justice for the victims of Lafiaji brutality, we have been meeting with all relevant stake holders, particularly youths in Lafiaji and Kwara North to rob minds on the way forward over the incident.
We have met with the youths of Lafiaji town and we both agreed that there is need for action to ensure justice is done on the matter. The youths also informed us that they protested to the Emir’s palace to demand justice for their brothers and they are willing to collaborate with Kwara Must Change to achieve their aims.
Similarly, we equally met with the leadership of Nupe youths who informed us of their own plans. We can confidently inform the public that the Nupe youths are not sitting down idle. They are also working to ensure justice is done on the matter and Kwara Must Change shall be collaborating with them to determine the most appropriate line of action.
Additionally, we are also in contact with a Kwara North socio cultural organization that is also working to ensure that the victims do not die for nothing. We all shall be working together to not only seek justice for the victims, but to also immortalize them.
We therefore call on all well meaning Kwarans and Nigerians to support us as we demand justice for the victims and their families.
