Draw example from Jesus Christ, Olawepo Hashim urges Christians

In this season of Christmas

I join our Nigerian Christian community to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ.

The commemoration of the birth of Christ presents us with an opportunity to be our neighbours’ keeper, to show love to the less privileged in our society and to do more good to all around us.

In keeping with the teachings of Christ, I enjoin every Nigerian to foster peace and to draw from the example of Christ by providing shelter to those who can't afford to have one within this period.

As we celebrate, let us also remember the sacrifice of our men and women in uniform, who constantly put their life on the line to protect and preserve our Nation.

Let us remember those who have lost their life in the fight for our unity and lend a helping hand to the family they left behind.

This period also presents us with an opportunity to reflect on the great task that lies ahead as we go to the polls.

Let us be reminded that we have the opportunity to rewrite the history of our Nation by electing credible leaders who will protect and preserve our common patrimony.

Once again, I wish Nigerians a Merry Christmas and a happy and prosperous new year.

Bayelsa Governor ban Goodluck re-election groups in Bayelsa

Apparently miffed by the activities of various groups promoting the re-election of President Goodluck Jonathan and other candidates, Bayelsa State governor, Seriake Dickson has banned the activities of Transformation Ambassadors of Nigeria, TAN and other groups in the state. A statement signed by Daniel Iwariso-Markson, Chief Press Secretary to the governor, claimed that the groups were only brewing crisis in Bayelsa. “Those claiming to be campaigning for the re-election of President Goodluck Jonathan but are instead engaged in promoting subversive activities and inciting crisis and division within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state will have to move their activities elsewhere,” it said. The Nigerian Army on Tuesday publicly released the academic details of former military leader, Muhammadu Buhari, but denied at the same time it could not vouch for the authenticity of his Senior Secondary Examinations results. Speaking to the media, Army Spokesperson, Olajide Laleye, reversed the Army’s earlier position that it had copies of Mr. Buhari’s West African Secondary School Certificate. Mr. Laleye said while military records showed Mr. Buhari obtained the WASC in 1961, with credits in English Language, Geography, History, Health Science, and Hausa, there were neither the original copy nor certified true copy nor statement of result to confirm the grades. Corps Member Builds & Tests Drone In Osun

Osun State Deputy Governor, Mrs. Titi Laoye-Tomori, among other dignitaries, watched in admiration how a drone built by a corps member posted to Osun State took off and carried out surveillance of the parade ground at the Permanent Orientation Camp of the National Youth Service Corps on Monday. The corps member, Olaolu Ayoola, a graduate of Computer Science/ Engineering of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso, stole the show with his project during the closing ceremony of the orientation course for the 2014 batch ‘C’ of corps members deployed in the state. The drone, which soldiers and other security agents present at the event described as a good one, flew for about 10 minutes before it landed. The device, fixed with a surveillance camera, can stay in the air for 20 minutes and is capable of climbing up to 500 metres.
